- The Orbis Cascade Merger and Its Impact on Patron-Initiated Borrowing Munson, Doris M. Milton, Suzanne Library Services Consortia Academic Libraries Catalogs Organizational Change Use Studies Library Materials Bibliographic Databases In 2000, Eastern Washington University became part of the Cascade Consortium and participated in consortial borrowing through the Cascade Union Catalog. In 2003, the Orbis and Cascade consortia merged into the Orbis Cascade Alliance, which manages the Summit Union Catalog. Since 2000, Cascade or Summit consortial borrowing has increased while other interlibrary loans of borrowed returnables has decreased. This article examines the overall impact the Orbis Cascade merger has had on the participating libraries and compares patterns-of-use data before and after the merger. (Contains 9 tables.)
