contents How Can Libraries Determine the Value in Collecting, Managing, Preserving, and/or Cataloging E-Resources? King, Douglas Cataloging Library Role Librarian Attitudes Library Development Library Research Documentation Electronic Journals Electronic Libraries Library Materials Value Judgment Standards Selection Tools The author recently asked his colleagues, "How can libraries determine the value in collecting, managing, preserving, and/or cataloging e-resources?" hoping to challenge readers to come up with some thoughtful opinions and useful tips. Not surprisingly, he received a handful of substantially different but uniformly provocative and creative responses, including three from Kent State University. Burton Caldicott, reference librarian of the College of Charleston, stresses that libraries cannot determine the value in collecting, managing, preserving, and/or cataloging e-resources. What libraries can do is use their best judgment about what information will be the most important to preserve and catalog.
