contents Portfolios: Justify Your Job as a Library Media Specialist and the Media Budget during Times of Budget Cuts Allen, Melissa Bradley, Amy Portfolios (Background Materials) Publicity Media Specialists Job Security Budgets Budgeting Educational Finance Professional Development Goal Orientation Feedback (Response) Evaluation Methods During this time of economic crisis and the projected budget cuts in education, it is more important than ever to justify one's position as a critical element in the school. One excellent way to document the need for a full-time, certified media specialist in the school is through a portfolio. Maintaining a portfolio is cheap and fairly easy, because one is just documenting all the wonderful things one does on a daily basis. In this article, the authors talk about portfolios as great tools to ensure job security. They divided the portfolio into the following sections for organizational purposes: (1) Goals and Standards; (2) Budgets; (3) Professional Development; (4) Publicity; and (5) Feedback and Evaluations. The authors stress that a table of contents at the beginning of the portfolio should list all sections and documents contained within the notebook to make it easy to find specific information.
