  • Have You Heard the Word? For a Low-Budget Way to Get Kids Wild about Reading, Try Readers Theater Avi Scripts Theater Arts Reading Motivation Reading Strategies Teaching Methods Teaching Experience Early Reading In its simplest sense, readers theater is the presentation of written work in a dramatic format. The fundamental difference between readers theater and traditional theater is that performers read their lines. With readers theater there's no memorization, and usually there are no sets or costumes. There's also little or no stage movement. It's mostly performed in a room--not a theater--with scripts resting on music stands. The cost is almost nothing. In this article, the author describes his experiences with readers theater which led him to create Authors Readers Theatre (ART) in 2006 and provides some suggestions for those interested in readers theater.
