Something about the online revolution and, more recently, the advent of Web 2.0 tools and their ability to create connections among users, as well as between users and information, provokes feelings of fear and uncertainty. The author believes this response distracts librarians from their fundamental mission to educate students and can sabotage their ethical obligations as librarians. In this article, the author addresses this topic on two fronts: (1) the role of school library media centers in promoting reading and literacy; and (2) the role of school library media centers in teaching and learning.
