contents Nursing: Tools for the Selection of Library Resources Owens, Janet W. Selection Tools Hospitals Resource Centers Libraries Nursing Library Materials Electronic Publishing Nursing Education Research Health Services Certification Printed Materials Annotated Bibliographies Medical Services Online Searching Indexes The selection of resources for nursing is influenced by the type of nurse client and the institutional setting. Clients include students, professionals and educators. They may use academic and public libraries or resource centers in patient care settings such as hospitals. Nursing collections support four purposes: education, research, clinical care, and accreditation. Current resources predominate. A variety of formats are selected, some unique to nursing. While none of the nursing selection tools adequately addresses every purpose and meets the needs of all client types and institutions, the Brandon/Hill lists have broadest applicability. These and other selection tools are evaluated.
