This month, North Dakota's centennial quilt problem blends the mathematical strands of measurement, data and probability, geometry, and number. Student's activity sheet of North Dakota's centennial quilt is presented. Solving the problem from the March 2009 issue gives students a context for studying and in a meaningful way. This article also describes a library problem that involves choosing a library book, counting the words on a page, and then statistically analyzing the results to measure how difficult that book might be to read.
