  • Marketing: A Fair Opportunity for Promoting Information Literacy Germain, Carol Anne Information Literacy Outreach Programs Exhibits Institutional Advancement Library Services Search Strategies Library Skills Job Search Methods Career Guidance Library Development Educational Strategies Some faculty and administrators naively believe that undergraduates come to campus as information literate individuals since these students know how to use computers and the Internet. Yet, as librarians, they know that there is more to IL than surfing search engines, IMing, and word processing. So marketing IL becomes a very important task. This article discusses one of the many strategies to promote IL initiatives, which is a highly overlooked, but noteworthy, outreach opportunity: academic fairs. The author believes that these fairs draw in attendees who want to learn more about a particular topic, such as strategies for securing a job, finding the best resources for educational success, and information about getting into graduate law school.
