The Bing Brothers learned their traditional music from the Hammons family of Pocahontas County, WV, in an informal setting of friendship and collaboration. The Hammons family was recorded in the 1970s by Alan Jabbour and others; the Library of Congress produced a two-CD set in 1998 on the Rounder Label. The Bings and other West Virginia musicians and poets pass this music on to students from all over the world in the manner that they learned it. Live performances of spoken poetry accompanied by appropriate music are highlights of the week-long programme, and guest artists present their talents and work.
