- Virtual PLC's @ Their Best: A Daily Diatribe Jaeger, Paige Cognitive Style Courseware Librarians Instructional Design Professional Development Computer Mediated Communication Information Technology Virtual Classrooms Media Specialists Years ago, working in isolation meant that to develop professionally, librarians had to read journals and wait for the two times per year there were librarian conferences locally, statewide, or nationally that would help them improve their program. Now colleagues, suggestions, and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) are merely a click away. There has never been more of a need for a Professional Learning Community than today. In this article, the author talks about a virtual PLC in a local five-country area which makes it easy for members to mine great ideas and often, easy to share those cold, hard facts that one might hesitate to point out face-to-face. Although there are shortcomings to virtual connection that will not replace the intimate goal of detailed examination of teaching delivery that really is encouraged within a true PLC, the author stresses that this is a good start for those lone ranger librarians working to improve their program who need a jump start.
