contents Helping Administrators Recruit and Support School Library Information Specialists Klais, Madge Bugher, Kate School Libraries Specialists Library Services Information Scientists Library Science School Districts Administrators Recruitment School Support Principals Library Personnel School library professionals often complain that their principal or district-level administrators have a poor understanding of the work that they do. Reasons for this are varied and have been well documented in school library literature. The bottom line is that administrators' lack of education regarding the important contributions that the school library program can and should make to teaching and learning for students and teachers can result in disastrous funding and staffing cuts, something that is occurring throughout the country. In the face of such cuts, school librarians may have difficulty finding the time and the means to model and promote excellence in school librarianship. In this article, the authors introduce and describe a Web resource--officially titled "An Administrator's Guide for 21st Century School Library Programs"--which they hope will assist principals and other school administrators around Wisconsin who want to improve their school libraries and hire the best qualified candidates to work with them.
