Schools cannot afford to do without strong school library programs. It is the professional responsibility of librarians to fight for their programs, using warrior tactics to survive and thrive through tough economic times. By focusing efforts closest to classroom learning and increased student achievement, the task of advocacy winds up being shared by allies at the site and district level. How can teacher librarians best prioritize time so that work with students and staff remains strong? The answer lies in focusing on three areas: (1) leadership; (2) technology; and (3) collaboration. In this article, the author discusses these three areas and stresses the unique position of teacher librarians to have maximum impact on students across all grade levels and subject areas. |
