contents	A Structure Standard for Archival Context: EAC-CPF Is Here Dryden, Jean Archives Metadata Standards Coding The archival community's new descriptive standard, "Encoded Archival Context" for Corporate Bodies, Persons, and Families (EAC-CPF), supports the sharing of descriptions of records creators and is a significant addition to the suite of standards for archival description. EAC-CPF is a data structure standard similar to its older sibling EAD (Encoded Archival Description). Its purpose is to standardize the encoding of descriptions about entities associated with the creation, use, and maintenance of archival material so that this information can be shared in an electronic environment. It consists of a schema (available in three versions) and a tag library (including encoding examples), both of which may be freely downloaded from http://eac.staatsbibliothek-berlin.de/eac-cpf-schema.html. While EAD can accommodate descriptive information about creators of archival material within descriptions of the records themselves, EAC-CPF is a much more robust standard for describing creators. With EAC-CPF, contextual information about record-creating entities can still be integrated within descriptions of the records, or as an independent system of separate authority files that are linked to descriptions of the records.
