This article mines the existing literature for how institutions engaged in minimal processing view reference, the strengths and weaknesses of catalog records as finding aids, and information about user predilections and limitations. It describes the American Heritage Center's experience with unprocessed collection cataloging, and it proposes a number of issues for future consideration. (Contains 37 notes.)
