Given the current fiscal situation facing public higher education in their state, the current commercial systems were not affordable for most of their libraries. They decided to implement and work to enhance an open source set of discovery applications to provide a more economical solution for their libraries. They developed MnPALS Plus, which is an open source "discovery tool" based on VuFind and customized for a consortium environment. MnPALS Plus extracts the bibliographic data from their shared ILS for discovery and display in a more optimized and visually impacting interface for their users. MnPALS Plus is a very successful service that has been adopted by most of their libraries as the primary user interface. PALS provides support services for MnPALS Plus to the ODIN library system in North Dakota. |
