However, in this information-rich age, librarians' roles are even more important. They are information experts. They know how to think about the changing information environment, and they know the impact--both positive and negative--it can have on people whose jobs focus on contributing to a body of knowledge. This article describes a process that started when the authors' local web committee decided that they needed to embrace their expert status and share their knowledge with the community. They wanted to help people understand the boundaries of their areas of expertise and to know when it would be appropriate to contact librarians for collaboration. Mostly, they wanted to make themselves available so that people would know about their content areas. They want them to know that they are contributing nationally to these conversations and that they might have something to contribute locally too. (Contains 3 figures.)
