- Wayne A. Wiegand and the Library: A Passionate Engagement Young, Arthur P. Bertot, John C. College Faculty Academic Libraries Higher Education Library Education Library Science Wayne A. Wiegand, F. William Summers professor of library and information studies and professor of American studies, Florida State University, retires this year. For more than three decades, Wayne's sustained involvement with librarianship reenergized the profession's historical studies and brought new conceptual frameworks to the debate. Retirement, not a retiring activity for Wayne, we suspect, is a life-passage moment that may serve to acknowledge one's contributions. For Wayne, we celebrate an exceptional scholar, an outstanding teacher, a generous and caring mentor, and a stimulating and wise colleague.
