Motivational strategies include ways to gain and sustain attention, increase relevance for learning information literacy skills, build confidence in students' developing research abilities, promote a continuing motivation to engage in research on a topic, or provide satisfaction with research accomplishments. The first group of strategies for K-8 library media specialists and educators focus on ideas for helping high needs students. This article presents the following vignettes written by K-8 library media specialists and educators: (1) "Exploring and Learning in the Library," by Rasheedah Najieb; (2) "Making Learning Challenging," by Carmen del Valle; (3) "Providing a Risk-Free Learning Environment," by Minerva Aponte; (4) "Tapping Into Topic of Interest Raises HS Students' Interest in 'Planning Phase' of Research," by Donna Boyce-Martollo; and (5) "A Memorable Strategy for Library Orientation," by Jennifer McKinnell. |
