- Releasing Steam: Stressbusters to Market the Library as Place Newton, Daniel Academic Libraries Library Services State Universities Stress Management Outreach Programs Program Effectiveness Program Costs College students have a tendency to become stressed from both their schoolwork and their personal lives. As the end of a semester approaches, the stress levels begin to rise for everyone. The procrastinators, the planners, and even those ahead in their work become tenser even with small problems, such as slow printers or an unavailable book needed for a project. This causes some students to become extremely frustrated. In an effort to bring some relief to the end of the semester, SUNY Potsdam's Crumb Library started a program called StressBusters in fall 2006. Library staff places various games and activities throughout the social areas of the library in a nonintrusive manner so students can play and relax without having to leave the library. In this article, the author discusses the history of StressBusters and describes how the program leaves students feeling more positive, not only about their work but also with the library.
