DelGuidice, Margaux School Libraries Librarians Leadership Recognition (Achievement) Library Development Phenomenology Work Experience Leadership Role Leadership Responsibility Leaders In the fall of 2010 the author received an e-mail informing her that she has been selected as a Gale/Cengage New Leader, which was a true honor. Not only would she be joining four dynamic school librarians from around the country at the School Library Journal Summit on the Future of Reading, she was also being paired with a mentor to navigate her through this new experience. The Gale/Cengage New Leaders Program was created in 2010 through a partnership with School Library Journal. The program is "designed for school librarians who are new to the profession, and have already displayed leadership within their building, district, and/or state; are advocates for students, libraries, and 21st century learning; and are actively engaged in sharing and collaborating with colleagues through social networking and other venues." In this article, the author describes her experience as a New Leader.
