The author started her first job as a school librarian when there were no desktop computers, and card catalogs were the order of the day. Over the course of the thirty-seven years she has been a school library media specialist (and most recently library "information specialist") she has seen fundamental shifts in the roles that school library media specialists have individually and collectively taken on in their everyday jobs. The author has loved her role as the school librarian/media specialist/information specialist, and regardless of what she was called, what didn't change is that she knew to her very core that she had the best job in the building. In this article, the author describes how her professional life was fundamentally changed. In addition to her role in her building and district as a librarian/media specialist/information specialist/library teacher, she took on the role of her local association's association rep.
