contents Can-Do Spirit: Facing the Challenges of Budget Cuts Edwards, Buffy School Libraries Librarians Performance Factors Barriers Library Administration Change Strategies Best Practices Program Budgeting In this era of higher student enrollment coupled with budget cuts, some school library professionals are considering retirement, while others are standing up to defend the profession they know has a strong positive impact on student learning. School librarians who have experienced drastic cuts in multiple positions recommend not blaming the administrations. Take a step back and depersonalize the situation. In reality, no one likes to make the difficult decisions of what programs to cut. Staying focused on what "can" be done is easier with a positive attitude. Look at options that are effective yet inexpensive. Get creative! When thinking outside the box, one will find the possibilities are endless. In this article, the author shares a few inexpensive ideas that can help with library functions and support student learning.
