contents Science Sacks Freudenberg, Kimberlee Science Activities Science Interests Science Education Physics Inquiry Student Interests Elementary School Science Family School Relationship Parent Attitudes Grade 2 Financial Support With the emphasis placed on standardized testing, science education has been squeezed out. As a physics teacher, the author knows the importance of building children's interest in science early in their school career and of providing practice in basic science skills and inquiry. In order to make more time for science at her sons' elementary school, the author assembled a group of parents to create a take-home science program with science sacks, which was wholeheartedly endorsed by the school's teachers and principal. Science sacks are a library of science investigations. Each week, children take home a science activity with all the needed materials and instructions. Students receive a new sack each week until they rotate through the entire collection. Parent feedback shows that parents appreciate having a ready-made project that allows them to sit down and share the fun as well as the learning. (Contains 3 figures and 3 online resources.)
