The students worked with a published poet and wrote beautiful poems and then blogged with art students in the district. The art students made ceramic bowls that represented the poems. The combined project was done for True Light, a local homeless shelter, and included a silent auction with the proceeds going to True Light. "Harmony with Voice" truly goes above and beyond the legacy of Sara Jaffarian in support of the humanities. This project has changed the lives of countless homeless women and children while transforming the lives of students at Harmony. Some students have gone on to help in soup kitchens; participate in social action through churches, synagogues, and mosques; and feel a lifelong empathy for those who are struggling. The goal of this project has always been to have all middle schools in the district participate. If poetry and figurative language are in the curriculum, why not have all middle school students write poems and support a local charity or organization?
