Academic Libraries Research Libraries Library Services Librarians Information Management Library Development Library Materials Literature Reviews Information Sources Research Tools Information Processing In their Top Trends of 2012, the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) named data curation as one of the issues to watch in academic libraries in the near future (ACRL, 2012, p. 312). Data curation can be summarized as "the active and ongoing management of data through its life cycle of interest and usefulness to scholarship, science, and education" ("Data Curation," 2012, n.p.). Central to the mission of academic public services librarians, participation in data curation allows for easy discovery and retrieval of data over time. While data curation is often associated with scholarly research and institutional repositories, tasks related to data maintenance are not solely relegated to scholarly communications librarians. Public services librarians are also involved in data curation through liaison work, statistics collection, and more. The reviews in this article feature tools that can assist librarians with document management as well as resources that serve as toolkits or planning guides for librarians involved in data curation.
