Will libraries adopt the new bring-your-own-device-to-work policy? In the workplace, there may be room for debate, but in libraries, librarians don't have a choice whether or not to support the devices patrons want to use, at least not if they want to remain relevant. Consumers--and their patrons--now often decide what content they will even use based on whether their devices can access it. So while content may still be king, the decision of a librarian about what media and devices he or she will support may determine what content will be in demand. Four technology trends affecting content delivery will be in play in 2013, and they will change markets, consumers, patrons, and libraries. This article shares what librarians need to know. |
