- A Just Transition Towards Environmental Sustainability for All Catherine Saget Trang Luu Tahmina Karimova Many studies have shown that the transition to a green economy will generate net job creation but will also result in job losses and shift in skills. Making sure that all groups adversely affected by climate policies benefit from the green economy is key to a just transition to environmental sustainability for all. The chapter reviews the emergence of the concept of just transition in international instruments and illustrates its application with the ILO approach. While international labour standards provide a framework for any type of restructuring, the scope and inclusiveness of just transition make it unique. How the just transition concept was given effect in different socio-economic situations is illustrated in three case studies comprising Ethiopia, South Africa and Spain.
