- Rapid market analysis of the salt value chain in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh Salt production in Bangladesh employs nearly 40,000 farming households in Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar and involves over 500,000 workers in the value chain from production to processing, indirectly supporting an estimated 2.5 million people. However, the sector faces significant challenges, including reliance on traditional farming practices, low quality of farm-stored salt, lack of innovation, inadequate value chain governance, and poor employment conditions due to informality.
