| contents | Introduction: the formalisation of paid domestic work : current trajectories and challenges ahead Karen Jaehrling (Author) Francisca Pereyra (Author) Lorena Poblete (Author) Since the adoption of the ILO Convention 189 on domestic work in 2011, formalisation has become the focus of public policies. However, progress in formalising domestic work remains slow. Even when legal coverage increases through new labour and social security laws, enforcement is often inadequate, rendering the coverage ineffective. This introduction aims to understand the dynamics and causal factors that shape effective formalisation, as well as the intermediate forms between informal and formal work, highlighting the agency of different actors –at the macro, meso and micro levels– (states, intermediaries, collective actors, employers and workers). This SI is the outcome of three interlinked sessions at the ILO’s 8th ‘Regulating for Decent Work’ Conference. 10.1111/ilr.12431 DOI https://doi.org/10.1111/ilr.12431 publication.journalArticle |
