contents Continental slope samples offshore Guatemala contain organic matter derived from both terrestrial and marine sources. Upper Pleistocene samples are generally amorphous-rich, with TOCs averaging 2.4%. Pliocene and Miocene sediments contain varying amounts of terrestrial material that increase in proportion down toward the base of the slope. TOCs average 0.93%. The samples are currently immature for the generation of liquid hydrocarbons.
