| contents | Serpentinite is influential to plate tectonics and the strength of faults, however the influence deformation textures have on the evolution of fault strength is poorly understood. Using a range of unsheared to sheared serpentinite outcrops I investigate the progression of deformation during the initiation of faults in serpentinite. This is complimented with a detailed clast size distribution analysis and a numerical model to query the bulk rheology and distribution of stress during deformation. This study demonstrates primary serpentinization textures impact the strength and development of faults throughout their history. |
