| contents | Raw multibeam bathymetry data were collected aboard RV SONNE during cruise SO286 using a Kongsberg EM 122 multibeam echosounder. The expedition took place during 2021-11-05 and 2021-12-08 from Emden, Germany to Las Palmas, Spain in the Northern Atlantic Ocean and the Labrador Sea. The main aim of SO286 was to study Icelandic marine Animals, especially their genetics and ecology regarding species diversity along latitudinal gradients in the deep sea of the Atlantic Ocean. Data were recorded outside EEZs at an average depth of approximately 2500m. For beam raytracing, sound velocity profiles (SVP) profiles were taken from CTD casts to improve MBES data accuracy. During transits, SVPs from the WOA13 were applied via Sound Speed Manager Software to the data directly during acquisition with SIS Seafloor Information System. Additionally, constant real-time measurements by the SV-Profiler at the transducer depth were applied throughout the cruise. Data are unprocessed and can therefore contain incorrect depth measurements (artifacts) if not further processed. The data are stored at the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany (Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie, BSH) and have been submitted to PANGAEA database for data curation and publication. Supplementary sound velocity profiles (SVP) from the cruise are also archived at BSH, and these files have been added to the dataset. Acquisition and provision of the data were part of the EU Horizon 2020 project iAtlantic - Integrated Assessment of Atlantic Marine Ecosystem in Space and Time (https://www.iatlantic.eu/). Additionally, it contributes to the DAM Underway Project. |
