contents This dataset comprises 113 live photographs of hamlets (Hypoplectrus spp.). The photographs are in raw format .CR2 from a Canon camera. This dataset spans 13 hamlet species from 4 locations in the wider Caribbean: Panama, Belize, Puerto Rico and the Florida Keys (USA). Photographs were taken in situ underwater. This dataset was used in a newly developed quantitative image analysis pipeline to assess hamlets color pattern variations. Further combined with genetics, the authors detailed the genetic basis of color pattern variation in hamlets.
