| contents | This dataset contains major and trace element concentration data for bulk sediment digests for core PS58/270-5 collected during R/V Polarstern expedition ANT-XVIII/5a (PS58) in 2001 (Miller, 2001) in the South Pacific Antarctic Zone. The sediment digests were analyzed for their major and trace element compositions using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and for their U and Th content using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University to calculate 230Thxs normalized fluxes (Costa et al., 2020). All element concentrations and activties have been corrected for salt content (Kuhn, 2013). The dataset contains two independent age models derived from diatom-based stratigraphy and correlation of the SSST and Fe content with EDC ice core data (doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.983158) and (ii) from non-lithogenic 230Th decay (Geibert et al., 2019). The element concentrations and internal 1RSD (%) were calculated based on multiple wavelengths where available (Al, Fe, Ca, Mg, Ti, Sr, Y, Ba). Every wavelength was analyzed five times during a measurement (five 'cycles'). Where only a single wavelength is available (K), the internal uncertainty represents the 1RSD of the five cycles. External uncertainty was calculated as 1SD of full replicate analysis of VIMS reference material (n = 8) (Costa et al., 2017). Propagated uncertainties for elemental ratios combine external uncertainties, and propagated uncertainties for 230Thxs-normalized fluxes combine internal and external uncertainties. This dataset uses a revised stratigraphy as section 1995-2095 cm was curated in reverse order. |
