| contents | Raw multibeam bathymetry data were collected aboard RV METEOR during cruise M211 using a Kongsberg EM 122 multibeam echosounder. The expedition took place during 2025-06-13 – 2025-07-28 from Nice (France) to Ponta Delgada (Portugal) in the Mediterranean Sea and Central East Atlantic. The overall goal of M211 has been to provide observational data of skin (upper 1 mm of the ocean) and near-surface salinity and temperature, and to gain mechanistic understanding of the dynamics of their anomalies. With this knowledge, we aim to understand how the skin and near-surface thermohaline field data can be used to integrate dynamic E-P fluxes in the subtropical (dominated by evaporation) and tropical Atlantic (dominated by precipitation). Interaction with atmospheric and oceanic forcing (e.g. near-surface humidity and air temperature, biogenic surfactants films and turbulent mixing) influence the anomalies in the skin layer and needs to be quantified. Data were solely recorded in international waters. Sound velocity profiles (SVP) were applied on the data for calibration. Please see environmental data and the cruise report for details. The data are unprocessed and can therefore contain incorrect depth measurements (artifacts) if not further processed. Note that refraction errors may occur when no proper SVP is applied. Data acquisition was done by University of Oldenburg, provision of the data is supported by the DAM Project Underway Research Data and published according to the FAIR principles. |
