| contents | This dataset contains UTM coordinates and X, Y distances in meters from measurements and sampling locations in each of the 11 ice stations from PS149 (CONTRASTS) expedition in the Arctic Ocean between July 2nd and September 1st, 2025. The dataset is accompanied by 11 thematic maps of the respective ice stations illustrating these locations. The images used in the thematic maps are image mosaics from drone flights during each of the ice stations. Survey characteristics like altitude, velocity, and image overlap vary depending on weather conditions and floe drift. These drone images are georeferenced by the drone system, and later processed into one overall image of the ice floe as a mosaic using Agisoft Metashape. With the software QGIS, the measurements and sampling locations, as well as locations of instrument deployments and transects, were marked on the images and the UTM coordinates were extracted from each of these location points. One point was marked over the vessel's bridge and considered as Reference Point Zero. The distance in meters from each of the location points on the ice floe was computed by extracting its UTM coordinates from the UTM coordinates of reference point zero (i.e. Polarstern). These distance values are presented in the data table as X and Y coordinates. The transect measurements on the ice floes are represented by lines in the thematic maps, and the respective start and end locations coordinates are in the data table. In QGIS, the projection used was EPSG:3413 – WGS 84 / NSIDC Sea Ice Polar Stereographic North, based on the World Geodesic System 1984 ensemble (EPSG:6326). The same software was used to produce the thematic maps of the ice floes. |
