- Short-term effects of acetamiprid on common carp: Genotoxic, biochemical, and histopathological responses. Gül, Göktuğ Arslan Yüce, Pınar Günal, Aysel Çağlan Faggio, Caterina Animals Carps Neonicotinoids Liver Gills Micronucleus Tests Insecticides Water Pollutants, Chemical DNA Damage Neonicotinoids such as acetamiprid are used extensively in veterinary medicine and agricultural practices. Acetamiprid has been reported to have effects on non-target organisms. This study investigates the effects of acetamiprid on common carp. Fish were exposed to 50 and 100 mg/L acetamiprid concentrations for 48 h and 96 h. Then, blood, gill and liver samples were taken from the fish. As a result of micronucleus analysis, it was determined that acetamiprid increased the number of micronuclei after 48 h of exposure at all concentrations 4-fold and after 96 h of exposure, at 50 mg/L concentration 2.5-fold and the 100 mg/L concentration 3-fold. According to the hematocrit values, a decrease was observed in the acetamiprid-exposure groups. While a small change was detected in AOPP and MDA values in gills and livers, histopathological analyses showed that 96 h exposure caused damage in both tissues. As a result, sublethal concentrations of acetamiprid caused toxic effects on common carp.
