Three probiotic strains, Enterococcus faecalis SB2-3, Bacillus tropicus SB2-4, and E. arabatum SB2-5, were isolated from the gut of fast-growing shrimp and compared for their functional performance. Among them, E. arabatum SB2-5 exhibited the most pronounced effects, significantly enhancing growth performance, digestive enzyme activities, and resistance to Vibrio alginolyticus infection. Subsequent dosage optimization revealed that dietary inclusion levels of 10-10 cfu kg maximized shrimp growth, feed utilization, and disease resistance without affecting survival under normal conditions. The probiotic also upregulated key immune-related genes (propoii, lys, crus, and alf1) and elevated antioxidant (superoxide dismutase), lysozyme, and phagocytic activities, indicating activation of both humoral and cellular immune defenses. Moreover, 16 S rRNA sequencing demonstrated that E. arabatum SB2-5 supplementation reshaped the gut microbiota, markedly reducing the relative abundance of pathogenic V. parahaemolyticus. Collectively, these results demonstrate that E. arabatum SB2-5 is a novel and effective probiotic capable of promoting shrimp growth, enhancing immune competence, and modulating gut microbial balance.
