  • Sarcoglaucone A, a novel sarsolenane-related diterpenoid from the soft coral . Chuang, Yue-Wen Ahmed, Atallah F Chung, Hsiao-Ling Liu, Yueh-Wen Chien, Su-Ying Lin, Yu-Chi Liaw, Chia-Ching Wu, Yu-Jen Weng, Jing-Ru Pham, Quoc Vu Su, Jui-Hsin Sheu, Jyh-Horng Sung, Ping-Jyun Two sarsolenane-type diterpenoids, including a known compound, dihydrosarsolenone (1), and a novel metabolite, sarcoglaucone A (2), were isolated from the soft coral , collected off the coast of Taiwan. The absolute configuration of dihydrosarsolenone (1) was determined by single-crystal X-ray difraction (SC-XRD) analysis for the first time in this study. The structure of sarsolenane 2 was established on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and further confirmed by SC-XRD analysis. One aspect of the stereochemistry of the known sarsolenanes 1 (dihydrosarsolenone) and methyl dihydrosarsolenoneate was revised. Sarsolenane 1 was found to exhibit activity in enhancing alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity in human osteoblast-like cells (MG63).
