  • Structural Reliability of the Tampico Bridge under Wind Loading David de León Lorena Manjarrez Alfredo H-S. Ang Multidisciplinarias (Ciencias Sociales) cycle cost wind loading expected life optimal design Bridge reliability A highway bridge located inTampico, on the east coast of Mexico, isanalyzed to determine its structural reliabilityagainst wind loading. The inherent variabilitiesof the random wind force and of themechanical properties of steel constitutethe aleatory uncertainty; this contributes tothe probability of failure of the steel girder. The idealization of the loading and of thebridge structure, and the analysis of thestructural response to wind loading, contributeto additional uncertainty of the epistemictype, which leads to a range of possible(or distribution of) failure probabilities. Thedesign with the minimum expected life-cyclecost is the optimal design. However, for thisoptimal design, the 90% value (or the meanplus one standard deviation value) of thecorresponding failure probability or safetyindex may be selected for a risk-aversivedesign. The proposed criteria constitute a newapproach to make conservative decisions andinvolve the epistemic uncertainty on the bridgedesign and assessment process 2008 artículo científico 1405-0269 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=10415207 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=104 CIENCIA ergo-sum, Revista Científica Multidisciplinaria de Prospectiva application/pdf Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México CIENCIA ergo-sum, Revista Científica Multidisciplinaria de Prospectiva (México) Num.2 Vol.15
