  • Effects of comprehensive smoke-free legislation in Europe Lucia Maria Lotrean Salud Europe legislation second hand smoke This paper reviews data regarding the effects of the legislationbanning smoking in enclosed public places, includingworkplaces, restaurants and bars which entered into force inseveral countries of Europe starting with the year 2004. Thesource of data is represented by articles and short informationpublished in peer reviewed journals or in electronicformat between the years 2005 and 2008. Highlights includea consideration of the effects of these laws on the attitudesof the population regarding their implementation, exposureto passive smoking in public places as well as the scientificevidence on the public health and economic impact of theselaws.
