- Incremento del índice de dientes permanentes cariados, perdidos por caries y obturados, entre escolares de Loja, España José Antonio Benítez María América García María Teresa López Diego Almagro Salud Spain food habits relative risk Key words: dental caries Objective. To identify the clinical, socioeconomic, dietary, and hygienic predictors of the increasing Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT) index, in a cohort of school childrenin Loja, Granada, Spain, during a three-year period(1994-1997). Material and methods. A retrospective cohortstudy was conducted in 812 students to measure theDMFT index, using the methods recommended by the WorldHealth Organization. Statistical analysis was conducted usinglogistic regression models. Results. During the studyperiod, the DMFT index increased from 1.86 to 4.5 for thestudy cohort as a whole, and from 3.71 to 4.47 amongtwelve-year olds. The DMFT at mid-period was associatedto an increase in the final DMFT. The relative risk forattending school no. 3 was 0.69 (95% CI 0.60-0.8) vs. schoolno. 4, and 0.78 (95% CI 0.67-0.90) vs. school no. 5. Conclusions. The final model showed that the DMFT at midperiodwas a risk factor for an increase in the DMFT indexand that attending school number 3 was a protective factor. The English version of this paper is available at: http://www.insp.mx/salud/index.html 2001 artículo científico 0036-3634 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=10643305 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=106 Salud Pública de México application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública Salud Pública de México (México) Num.3 Vol.43
