| contents | Helicobacter pylori: Focus on CagA and VacA major virulence factors Gonzalo Castillo Marisa Mazarí Yolanda López Salud pathogenesis virulence factors Helicobacter pylori After colonizing the human gastric mucosa, Helicobacter pylorican remain within the host for years and even decades, and is associated with several, highly significant gastric pathologies. In Mexico, the seroprevalence at 1 year of age is 20%and the estimated increment in seropositivity per year is5% for children aged 1-10 years. More than 80% of adultsare infected by the time they are 18-20 years old. Bacterialvirulence factors have been proposed for H. pylori, such asurease, flagella, heat-shock protein, lipopolysaccharide, adhesions, vacuolating cytotoxin, cag pathogenicity island andthe cytotoxin-associated protein, the latter being the moststudied mechanism to date. 2004 artículo científico 0036-3634 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=10646608 es http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=106 Salud Pública de México application/pdf Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública Salud Pública de México (México) Num.6 Vol.46 |
