To begin to fill this gap, this paper presents an environmental quality index for the departments comprised in the northeastern provinces of Argentina. It is composed of twenty-three variables grouped into three dimensions known as: a) nature- based recreation resources; b) socially constructed resources; and, c) environ - mental problems.
