- Moving north: different factors influencing male and female mexican migration to United States Vladimir Canudas Romo Demografía EDER event gender migration history data This paper employs survival analysis to studythe Mexican patterns of migration to the UnitedStates for working purposes. The modelfocuses on certain factors which have beendistinguished previously as characteristics oflabour migration: age, family responsibility,family network, education, labour status andcalendar year. Special emphasis has been puton distinguishing between male and femalecharacteristics. The data used derives from theEDER, a retrospective survey elaborated inMexico. Estimates show a reduction in themigration risk for men and women due toemployment in Mexico and the formation of aunion, respectively.
