contents Ways to gain influence for residents in two gentrifying neighbourhoods: a comparison between Tøyen in Oslo and Lavapiés in Madrid Kristin Reichborn-Kjennerud José M. Ruano Daniel Sorando Demografía activism gentrification local democracy social movements urban regeneration In gentrifying cities, entrepreneurial strategies often conflict with the interests of citizens. Cities deal with this differently. Participatory democracy is one method to avoid conflict through increased responsiveness to citizens. Participatory processes are nevertheless particularly challenging in central neighbourhoods where the problems of gentrification are most acute. The present study explains how these participatory processes play out differently depending on the participatory system, the economic situation and the local capacity for collective action. Towards this goal the article compares two deprived neighbourhoods that face these types of problems in the north and south of Europe, Oslo, Norway and Madrid, Spain. 2021 artículo científico 1405-7425 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=11278967005 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/112/11278967005/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/112/11278967005/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/112/11278967005/11278967005.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/112/11278967005/movil 10.22185/24487147.2021.110.32 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=112 Papeles de Población application/pdf Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México Papeles de Población (México) Num.110 Vol.27
