contents El empresario moral venezolano: crítica social e identidad durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX Christopher Birkbeck Sociología Venezuela public discourse Moral entrepreneur This article examines the character ofpublic discourse on the problem of crime inVenezuela between 1950 and 1999, based on astudy of 401 articles published in El Nacional.Previous studies on “moral entrepreneurs” inother countries have described them as beingheavily oriented toward legislative reform, oftenbased on technical discussions of the problems athand. By contrast, the Venezuelan moralentrepreneur tends to use literary rather thantechnical discourse, frequently adopting amelodramatic style. This style, characterized byan abundant use of metaphors and a crudedistinction between good and bad, has anexpressive rather than instrumental function, because it seeks to establish the respectability ofthe actor rather than produce changes in societyor in the criminal justice system. 2001 artículo científico 1315-0006 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=12210303 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=122 Espacio Abierto application/pdf Universidad del Zulia Espacio Abierto (República Bolivariana de Venezuela) Num.3 Vol.10
