contents De vuelta al Sangay - Investigaciones arqueológicas en el Alto Upano, amazonía ecuatoriana Ernesto Salazar Multidisciplinarias (Ciencias Sociales) Ecuadorian archaeology has had an uneven development, particularly in the Amazon region, where little research has been carried out. This situation is largely due to the misconception that the terra firme region has been, since pre-Columbian times, a hinterland with little cultural innovations. Recent research carried out in the Upper Upano valley, Morona Santiago province, has yielded 35 agricultural settlements characterized by platform mounds and interior plazas. A system of local and regional causeways complete an urbanistic landscape, and suggests a high demographic concentration on the Eastern slopes of the Andes, during the Regional Development period (500 BC- 500 AD). The possibility is considered that these settlements may have played an active role in an exchange network between the highlands and the eastern tropical lowlands of Ancient Ecuador. 1998 artículo científico 0303-7495 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=12627202 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=126 Bulletin de l'Institut français d'études andines application/pdf Instituto Francés de Estudios Andinos Bulletin de l'Institut français d'études andines (Perú) Num.2 Vol.27
