| contents | Vicisitudes de la utopía escolar del radicalismo en el Tolima (1863-1886) Jairo Ramírez Bahamón Multidisciplinarias (Ciencias Sociales) This article is based on the findings of an investigation by the author into the impact exerted by the Colombian Radical Government?s Educational Reform within the jurisdiction of the Sovereign State of Tolima / one of the nine states that comprised the Colombian Federation known as the ?United States of Colombia.? A description is first given of the basic elements of the educational utopia that was promoted by the Radical Liberalism movement as an expression of the thinking of the Enlightenment / with a heavy European influence. Then an overall study is made of its accomplishments and successes at the national level. This is followed by a case-study analysis of the different positions taken in the Sovereign State of Tolima by the liberal and conservative schools of thought / as well as the bloc of local forces and the Catholic clergy.
