contents Educación, subjetividades y culturas juveniles: ¿una relación imposible? Norma Alejandra Maluf Multidisciplinarias (Ciencias Sociales) The paper discusses the relationship between education, subjectivity and juvenile cultures in their dimensions of opposition and conflict. It examines the “civilizing” and culturally exclusive character of western education from its beginnings. In a cultural context in which both subjects and societies are undergoing what Castoriadis calls a “crisis in the processes of identification” it is essential that education direct itself to the problems of our subjectivities. In the article a critique is offered of the dominant conceptions of juvenility and of the low importance given to the socio-cultural conditions in which cultures and identities considered to be juvenile are formed . “Juvenility” ends up being conceived socially as that which is part of what is opposed to adult, in which notions of immaturity, incompleteness, minority and irresponsability are included along with innocence and beauty. Within schools youth are constructors of a rituality which, because it is distinct from the established canons of the institutions, places them in the condition of midfits. Violence in schools is treated in the paper as the extreme form in which conflict between youth, subjectivity and education is expressed. This violence goes beyond the simbolic dimensions which belonged to the cultural expressions of youth some decades ago and has taken on a reality which includes death among the young, and, not so much a cultural construction, as a process of deculturalization. Finally the article points to elements in the crisis of education as part of wider institutional crises, and suggests some of the challenges to education, in the face of the demands of both subjects and contemporary culture. 1999 artículo científico 0303-7495 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=12628312 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=126 Bulletin de l'Institut français d'études andines application/pdf Instituto Francés de Estudios Andinos Bulletin de l'Institut français d'études andines (Perú) Num.3 Vol.28
